Web fit test

The dress rehearsal. Your game appears on real Poki category pages for around 10,000 players, looking exactly like a released game. Unbiased data on how it would actually perform.

Why it matters

Your game isn't promoted or shown to Poki's whole audience during the test, but the numbers still give an unbiased read on its potential: whether there's a fit with the Poki audience, and where your game sits among Poki's categories. Because the metrics come from a large group of real players, they tell you a lot about that fit. If you don’t pass, they point to what to improve.

How it works

We place your game in multiple categories that fit it. You can suggest up to four under Settings → Suggested categories; we take those into account and add our own judgment to find the most balanced audience, which sometimes means other or additional categories.

The test takes about 3 to 5 days, depending on how fast the player target is reached. During busy periods it can take a little longer. Once started, a test runs its full course and can't be stopped. Found a bug mid-test? Upload a new version and email developersupport@poki.com to swap the version being tested.

What we measure

Three metrics, weighted equally, and higher is better on each.

MetricWhat it tells you
Click-through rate (CTR)How many players who saw your thumbnail clicked it. A read on your thumbnail's pull and how popular your game looks at first glance.
Average time on pageHow long players stay once they arrive. A read on how much they enjoy the game.
Conversion to play (C2P)How many visitors reached your first gameplayStart() event, so make sure it's implemented before you start. A read on loading speed and onboarding, both of which matter a lot on the web.

Reading your results

When the test finishes you get a performance review: details about your game, the categories it was tested in, and your score on each metric.

Each metric is scored 0 to 5 against the category benchmarks, the average of games in the categories you were tested in, shown beneath your score. A 3 means you’re at or above the category average. Example: if action and adventure games average 1.5% CTR, 4 minutes on page, and 70% C2P, matching those numbers scores you a 3 on each.

Good to know

  • Before you start: clear the player fit test.
  • Monetization can wait: it's worth planning monetization early, but commercialBreak() and rewardedBreak() aren't required yet. If they are implemented, placeholder ads show and no revenue is made during the test.
  • Multiplayer games: test traffic is limited, so filling lobbies can be tricky. Connect to your existing servers if you have a player base, or add bots to fill open spots. Multiplayer support is still improving, so if neither option works for you yet, keep an eye on the Poki blog and try again later.
  • Repeatable: as long as your game meets the quality guidelines, you can request another web fit test with a new version whenever you're ready.

After the test

Depending on the result, your game either moves toward release or goes back for another round of iteration. Pass, and it's automatically submitted for the final review. Passing shows a potential fit, not an instant release. In the meantime your game stays live, it’s unpromoted, and it doesn’t earn anything - so the players who found it can keep playing. Let us know if you'd rather have it removed in the meantime.
